Can I claim Alimony to ex for court order paid car payment and insurance i pay. Also Ive been a paying credit card off . Can i claim this Thank you?

UPDATED FOR TAX YEAR 2019

YES, you can claim alimony to your "ex" for the court-ordered car payment and insurance.

If the credit card payments were also ordered by the court you can deduct them too, as long as the divorce papers don't designate the payment as "not alimony."  If they are voluntary payments, they are not considered alimony and are not deductible.

The divorce documents must have been executed on or before December 31, 2018.  For divorces after December 31, 2018alimony payments are no longer deductible nor must the recipient declare the amount as taxable income.
