Sorry, Long Explanation: Desktop Mac user. I spent a couple of hours with TT Technical Support yesterday regarding this issue.
Under Wages and Income, I used the Less Common Income / Misc Income / Other Reportable Income (was for a UK Pension). Entered the requested brief description & taxpayer amount.
As a 25+ year TT user, I've had this same deduction for many years, with no problems.
I previewed my return before submitting, and since on the Federal Form, Other Income with description looked ok, I submitted my returns. Within an hour it was rejected by the IRS. The code more or less indicated that there was no 'explanation' of what the 'other reportable income' was.
When I went back & checked: Schedule 1, Line 8z, the 'Other Income, List Type & Amount', I saw the figures had populated, but the required 'List Type' (UK Pension) had not.
The first person I spoke with (1/2 hour) didn't really understand, plus she was having issues with the screen share. She then disconnected me.
Calling back, I was able to get a Level 1 tech who did know her stuff. She spent another 45 minutes w/me, checked w/her supervisor and had me try other ways to get it to populate on Schedule 1. No luck. She then transferred me to a Level 2 Tech, who was extremely arrogant and told me to 'print it out, write it in & mail it'. Really? He then said it would be 'escalated' and I'd receive an email w/case #, etc. I asked him for the case # & some type of ID that could reference who I spoke with. Nope, and no email with above.
Anyways, here we are today and not sure where I'm going to go with this as it's obviously a bug in the software.

I tested this issue on my Mac. I saw that, if you describe the item in the input field for Other Reportable Income, the description does go to the Schedule 1 Line 8 Other Income Statement, but it doesn't flow through to Schedule 1.
In the alternative to waiting for an update on the investigation you requested, you could choose delete your entries in Other Reportable Income and enter a Substitute 1099-R instead if you wish.
To enter a substitute form 1099-R in TurboTax for Mac follow these instructions:
The follow up screen says "If you're filing by mail, print and attach this form with your tax return. If you're e-filing your return, we'll handle it for you."
The program will ask for a valid EIN . If there is no way to get a valid US EIN from the UK pension system, you can try entering all 9s. However, I cannot confirm whether it can be e-filed with all 9s.
Hi MonikaK1
TT did an update on 1/31/2026 that addressed this issue. It has been resolved and the missing text now appears on Schedule 1, Line 8z.
Thanks!
