All right, you tell me, the file that I saved from Turbo Tax lists the following properties:
"2019 [Name] form 1040 Individual Tax Return"
Type: Turbo Tax 2019 Document
Size 2.91 MB
Data Modified [Date] [Time]
(Details of identification in []. No way that I can tell if .tax or .pdf format, not shown???
Guess that I will have to re-enter all from scratch and next year, will copy the total Turbo Tax folder to the USB in order to save the .tax file. Wish that I had known this sooner, no instructions on how to save and recall!
Are you on Windows or Mac? Did you get the 2019 program installed? And updated? Can you start a new blank 2019 return just to check it? Then what happens if you go up to File-Open and browse to your file? First copy the file from the flash drive to your computer hard drive and know where it put it.

That file is the tax data file.
Click on the View tab in the Documents window. Check the box for File Name Extensions
Found this on How to show the file extension in Windows

First ... the program cannot open or read a return saved on a thumb drive ... move the files to your hard drive to open or read them.
This is my mini version of a tutorial that should be in the downloaded program:
Always remember to shut off the auto update function once you have filed your returns and do not do any updates unless you have safeguarded the PDF & .taxfiles to a removable storage unit for safekeeping.
Forms Mode lets you view and make changes to your tax forms "behind the scenes."
If you're adventurous, you can even prepare your return in Forms Mode, but we don't recommend it. You may miss obscure credits and deductions you qualify for, and you may forget to report things that will come back and haunt you later.
Forms Mode is exclusively available in the TurboTax CD/Download software. It is not available in TurboTax Online.
If you want to play around with different figures and tax scenarios without affecting your original return you can ….
It's always a good idea to make a backup copy of your tax data file, in case your original gets lost or corrupted. Here's how:
If you make changes to your original tax return file, repeat these steps to ensure your original and backup copies are in-synch.
AND save it as a PDF so you have access to a copy even if you don’t have the program still installed and operational :
AND protect the files :
not really sure what you did. have you viewed the contents of the disk? is there a file .tax2018? if not it is not on the disk. if it is you should be able to copy it to windows 10 desktop. if you are trying to transfer the program, copying the program won't work you need an installation disk or download to install the program.
also be warned there can be installation issues if your os is windows 10S. 10s was meant only for programs purchased from the Microsoft Store.
To find out which version of Windows your device is running, press the Windows logo key + R, type winver in the Open box, and then select OK.
if you have 10S and need to install 2018 TT proceed as follows
You can switch Windows 10 out of S Mode to Windows 10, and then you can install whatever software you need to install, it is free to switch Windows 10 out of S Mode
Before proceeding back up your computer. you never know when doing this will create issues.
Open the Settings App
Go to Update and Security - Activation
In the Switch to Windows 10 Home or Switch to Windows 10 Pro section, select Go to the Store. (If you also see an "Upgrade your edition of Windows" section, be careful not to click the "Go to the Store" link that appears there.)
On the Switch out of S mode (or similar) page that appears in the Microsoft Store, select the Get button.
After you see a confirmation message on the page, you'll be able to install apps from outside of the Microsoft Store.
