Backdoor Roth Conversions Prior to 2023

In years prior to 2023, I funded my Traditional IRA with aftertax dollars and immediately converted to a Roth IRA so there so were no gains.  I forgot to report the 1099 in Turbo Tax so it did not get reported on my 1040.  Do I need to ammend my prior returns to account for this?  If so, what happens if it is outside the 3 years lets say in 2017 or 2018?  How do I handle this situation?

Yes, you can amend the last three years returns to include Form 8606.  You'll be mailing just Form 1040X, and Form 8606.

You can send in just Form 8606 for the years outside the amendment window.

Here's more info on How to Trigger Form 8606 and discussion on Back Door Roth Conversion for Multiple Years.
