At Final federal review I entered missing information - whether my daughter attended a 4 year college (yes). Tax increased ~ $2K. No back button and agents unable to help

Nearing the completion of my taxes, at the Final federal review I was prompted to enter missing information - basic information like whether my daughter had committed a federal crime (or something like that - no) whether my daughter attended a 4-year college (yes). Immediately my federal and state taxes increased by about $2K. No back button at the final review stage to understand what happened, why, or how to undo or fix my inputs. Rerunning the federal review won't help because TT considers the errors or missing information fixed. After hours of time with agents and tier 2 support, no one could figure out what happened, why, or how to fix it.  Apparently, the only option I have at this point is to start over.  If anyone out there has a better idea, please let me know.

Remove the 1098-T entry to clear that entire section ... then try it again ... this time be very careful how you answer those questions ... read them outloud so you comprehend them.

I suggest you go back to the education summary screen and review the interview questions. I say this because there is no question about attending a four year college, but there is a question that asks

"Had the student Earned Four Years of College Credit Before 2018?"

and if you answer YES to that, the credit will be disallowed.

(In Online Self-Employed Click Federal,,,,,,Deductions & Credits,,,,,,scroll down to Education (or Expenses and Scholarships),,,,Click Edit

Click Edit next to the student's name

Scroll down to Education Information and click Edit (or Start)

Answer the questions and go through the entire interview.

A screen should appear that says "Maximize My Credit"

Click on this and the program will tell you if you are eligible for a credit and if not, the possible reasons why.

If the student did not graduate or earn the four year degree in 2017 or before, answer "No" to "Had the student Earned Four Years of College Credit Before 2018?"

Thank you, but I reviewed that section and confirmed the information and that I answered "No" to "Had the student Earned Four Years of College Credit Before 2018?"
