Asking for A Friend. She is going through a Divorce that isn't final and never Changed her Last Name. Does she File Divorced or Single ?

Divorced is not a filing status.  And if she was still legally married at the end of 2019, she cannot file as Single.  Her choices are married filing separately or married filing jointly. IF she was apart from her spouse for at least the last six months of 2019 and has been the custodial parent of the children she could file as Head of Household.

The name she uses on her tax return must match her current Social Security card.
