Are there expenses that I can claim against my 1099-misc when I worked as a student intern?

Yes, since you were a 1099MISC independent contractor, you will have self-employment income.  You can technically take any business expenses that are "ordinary and necessary" for the operation of your business.  In your case, your business was your work.

Practically speaking, you may or may not have any actual expenses that you can deduct, depending on the type of work you did.  For example, it's possible you may have vehicle expenses if you were required to drive between job sites (but not regular commuting mileage) or maybe you subscribed to trade journals or publications.  TurboTax will walk you through the possible business deductions during the expense interview.
