If you using the election to take a charitable deduction of up to $300, on top of using the standard deduction, you cannot enter this through the Itemized Deductions screens.

Please follow the steps below to enter your charitable contribution in the correct place in TurboTax :

  1. Open your return.
  2. Click Federal from the left side of your screen.
  3. Click Deductions &Credits on the top of the screen.
  4. Scroll down and click the Wrap up tax breaks button.
  5. Continue until you reach the Charitable Cash Contributions under Cares Act screen.
  6. Enter your charitable cash contributions.

Once entered, please delete the donations entered under the Itemized Deduction screens. To get to this screen, search donations with the magnifying glass tool at the top of the page.

I followed directions to #4 but there was no "Wrap up tax breaks" button

The Cares Act allows people who take the Standard Deduction to take an additional un-itemized deduction for up to $300 of donations to qualified charities.  This doesn't come up in the regular interview process (BAD, TurboTax!!), but here's an easy work around.  Go to the top left of screen and click on Forms.  Scroll down to the 1040 worksheet (1040/1040SR Wks) and click on it.  On the worksheet scroll down to line 10 b and enter the amount of your contribution.  The information will be entered on your return.   To get back to your return go to the upper left corner again and click on EasyStep.
