Currently, TurboTax supports the manual entry of IRS Form 1099-DA. We are in the process of enhancing our CSV import and upload features to make this process more seamless.
If you are ready to file now, you can still enter your information manually. Otherwise, thank you for your patience while we get these automated tools ready for you!
Is there an update yet on when this feature will be available. I'm waiting.
Hi @JamesG1, could you post an update on what is the recommended way to import transactions reported on 1099-DA or when the import feature might be available to avoid having to mail the 1099-DA to IRS? Thanks and have a great day!
Hello, how do I import data from Coinbase into Turbotax desktop 2025. I have the business and Home edition. Coinbase has a 1099-DA form, but is not listed as a supported financial institution. I also dont seem to be able to load a csv file with Crypto transactions
You can't. Even though TurboTax claimed this was a feature of t Premier and Business, the function is not available. I am really pissed about this.
You can enter the details from your 1099-DA in TurboTax. Go to Wages & Income > Investments > Add Investments > Skip Import > Digital Assets.

The original question is about importing the CSV from Coinbase. The 1099-DA does not import from financial institutions. I realize it can be manually entered but that's not practical when there are many transactions that are required to be imported with the CSV. @JamesG1 already mentioned that the feature to import CSV should be released. I'm looking for an update on when the feature will be released.
I don't have any info on an update, but here's How to Summarize 1099-DA Transactions:
More info from the IRS:
"If you don't need to make any adjustments to the basis or type of gain (or loss) reported to you on Form 1099-B or Form 1099-DA (or substitute statement) or to your gain (or loss) for any transactions for which basis has been reported to the IRS (normally reported on Form 8949 with box A or box G checked), you don't have to include those transactions on Form 8949. Instead, you can report summary information for those transactions directly on Schedule D."
Remember that the IRS already has a copy of your 1099-DA. All they really want to know on your tax return is did you have a gain/loss and was it short-term/long-term.
@Anonymous

Thanks, that is helpful and an option. However, as previously stated in this thread, will Turbotax still make a patch that allows the users to download the .csv with all the transactions for crypto trades?

Timeline: We expect the new CSV import functionality to be available soon. Please note that this is an estimated target as we finalize the experience.

Is there any update on when this feature will be avaialbe for TurboTax Premier Desktop version. I have been waiting since the early Feburary and it keep saying the patch will be release soon. When is soon?
Convert your CSV into a TXF file. TurboTax Desktop can import TXF files, even though it cannot currently import Coinbase CSVs. You can convert these files with tools such as:
This is the recommended procedure.
Cointracker was charging $250 annual fee for year 2024 (last time I pay for their service).
Any update on availability to import Coinbase .CSV into Turbotax Premier?
Thank you.
Thanks for the recommendation. I understand that converting the CSV to TXF using a third‑party tool is the recommended approach for TurboTax Desktop.
My concern is that the cost of third‑party conversion software isn’t really worth it for my situation. Is there an option to switch from TurboTax Desktop to TurboTax Online, or otherwise handle this directly within TurboTax, to avoid paying for additional software just to convert the file?
I’m mainly trying to determine whether there’s a built‑in or lower‑cost way to handle Coinbase data without using external paid tools.
Appreciate any guidance on that.
