I am looking to amend my 2023 return to claim a Disaster loss from the storms and flooding covered in EM-3592-CA. Water rose to an unprecedented level during that time and entered the home, causing stucco, dry wall, and flooring damage. I have the bills and receipts to support the $6,000 in repairs. We are using the cost of those repairs as the method to figure the decrease the Fair Market Value as described in publication 547. This is the first time we have filed a disaster loss such as this, and although we have scrutinized publication 547 and documents recommended therein, I am curious as to any other documents that may be required to process the amended return.

All you need is the Form 1040X - amended tax return and a completed Form 4684 - Casualties and Thefts. If you entered the information about your loss in TurboTax, we automatically completed the form and you should have no issues filing the amended return.
