Amended Return

I filed a return on 04/01/2024 and was required to pay taxes.  I paid the amount.  I had to file an amended return due to not including my college tuition.  My amended return was accepted on 9/24/2024.  My account shows that I own the same amount I paid previously back in April and my amended return shows I should be expecting a refund.  When I check the IRS website, it shows that it has no information.  Can anyone help confirm my status?

Amended Return

TurboTax never knows if you paid your tax due.  TT gets no information from the IRS after you file your return.  Your only proof that you paid your tax due will be your own bank or credit card record.  TT does not update to show that you paid.   If you owed when you prepared your return, that is what will always be shown in your TT account.

Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.

You can watch for information here:

Amended Return

@Rhea-NFJ   For the Amended return.....

The amended return will only be the difference you get back or need to pay. You can confirm this by printing your amendment and looking at the 1040X. Line 18 should be your original refund amount and line 21 should be your additional refund. If you paid on your original return it will be on line 16 (but don't include any penalty on 1040 line 38). If there is an amount owed with the amendment, it will be on line 20.
