Am I required to file the 502 DEP forms and pre-pay for next year? I don't understand why these forms are attached to my return? I have not had them previously.

You are not required to file the 502 Dep estimated tax payment vouchers. They print automatically based on your 2016 tax return entries. This is just a suggestion to avoid possible penalties for under payment.

If you feel that estimated taxes are not called for in your tax situation, then you may disregard them.
