No, they are two separate pins for your protection.

Taxpayer Pin is the 5 digit pin you choose.

IP PIN is the 6 digit identity protection pin you get from the IRS.

Also, the 6-digit IP PIN will change every year, and the IRS will mail you the new one each year around Dec-Jan. They mail it to the address on the last return you filed.

sing Turbo Tax where does the 6 digit go? I do not see a place where it can be installed.

If you have a 6-digit IP PIN to enter, here's where to enter it.

  • FEDERAL TAXES tab. (or Personal tab in Home and Business)
  • Then sub tab "Other Tax Situations."
  • Scroll down to "Other Return Info".
  • Find subtopic "Identity Protection PIN", and click START.

self chosen is 5 digits and fits in the basic question format BUT if the IRS sent you an IP PIN then it is 6 digits and do the following to enter it:  1 go to Federal Taxes 2 scroll down to Other return info and select IP PIN  enter it there. 🙂
