After filing both federal and state taxes and both being accepted, I still have "Total 2019 tax due 16$". I'm not sure what this is from or what to do.

We cannot see your return and cannot explain where the $16 is from.

If you are showing you have a balance due to a state you need to send them the amount you owe. If you did not designate to have the state direct debit you bank account you can go the state website and pay the tax online.

The state balance is due by July 15th.

That tax due amount is up to you to pay. You "may" have been afforded the opportunity to pay it online via credit card. But one can also pay their Turbotax fees online to. So it's up to you to pay any taxes due to the IRS, as well as to your state if applicable.

That "tax due" amount will ***NEVER*** change either. It's just like if I send you a bill for say, $20 and you pay it. That bill will always read "you owe $20"  ***FOREVER***. It's not going to magically change.

If necessary, you can check if your payment to the IRS has cleared at https://www.irs.gov/payments/view-your-tax-account

If you need to check if your state tax payment has cleared, since there are 37 states that tax personal income it would depend on what state, if that state even offers the ability to pay your tax on line (not all do) and if they have the capability for you to "check your balance" online.

But the bottom line is, if your return, state and/or federal says that you owe tax, that will always say that, for the rest of time.

did you set up using your bank a/c to pay any balance due.  if not yo either owe the federal or state and have to arrange payment.   TT will never know that the payment was made and thus will always show the balance due.

I submitted both returns back in February and both were accepted and finalized within that same week. I received a small amount back from my federal ($54) and owed my state ($70), but TT still to this day it says I still owe $16 somewhere but doesn't say to who. I messed up answering my options for paying state online when I was submitting my returns due to confusion, but eventually had it set up to where my state was paid online. I physically saw the money come out of my bank account, and I also called my state agency to confirm they received the payment and they did. Eventually I also saw the money I was expecting from Federal enter my bank account. I'm assuming the State side of this is done, but I will call Monday to confirm it is officially done.

I am going to use the link you submitted to check the IRS side of the equation today. Assuming all goes well, that is the missing link and I can go from there. But if I received money from Federal, why would I still owe 2019 taxes after it's been submitted and accepted? Keep in mind the $16 TT says I owe it does not say to who. It's up near the top-middle of the page where it also says your Federal is pnding/accepted, and your State and Federal Status (owe/receive, type, status). It is to the left of these in larger text and just says "$16 Total 2019 Tax Due". I used the completely free version of Turbotax and do not plan on paying to upgrade ($30) to Plus to talk to a TT employee unless I really need to.
