2020 Federal MFJ now divorced filing HoH correct, but State reports Federal refund from 2020 as income. Should ex and I split large refund 50/50?

Iowa requires reporting Fed income tax refund as income however the full amount should not fall on both of us separately, I should think and be double taxed. I should think splitting it would be fair if he agrees, which it's amicable and he likely would b/c it benefits him too.

Yes, the state gives various examples of how to treat this income.

This is something that should have been covered in your divorce.  If you don't claim the entire amount in some way (100-0, 50-50, etc.), the state can come after either or both of you.  Hopefully you can agree without too much trouble.
