2016 tax information imported, but not info is showing. I've already input 2017 income; can I go back and try to import 2016?

I called turbotax help line because I started my 2017 return without imported 2016 and wanted to import it later.  I was told that this is not possible.  You can only import your previous year's tax return at the very beginning and before you enter any 2017 data.  I lost a lot of time reentering 2017 info because of this.  This is either a design flaw or a coding flaw in Turbotax.  There's no reason you shouldn't be able to import the previous year at any time
