1099-MISC only income for 4 months, then W-2 only income for 8 months. I also had a 1095-B catastrophic health insurance plan all year. How do I deduct my premiums?

*In May, my employer switched from paying me in 1099-MISC to W-2. They never offered any health insurance options.

Can I deduct it as a self-employed business expense? For just the 4 months I received 1099-MISC income, or for the full year?

Thank you!

If you continued running your business for the year, you can claim the entire year.

Sign into TurboTax

  • In the search box - enter  health insurance
  • Click on Jump to health insurance
  • Click on I had health insurance coverage all year

On the W-2 you received, is box 13 "statutory employee" checked.

If you are a statutory employee than you will continue running your business and you would add a W-2 to your return and make sure to check box 13.

The box for statutory employee is unchecked. My business continues because I am still planning to work for other clients, so I will claim the entire year. Thank you!
