1095-A and 1095-B thru VA (unearned subsidies)

I received Obamacare subsidies for all of last year and have a 1095-A.  I signed up for VA Healthcare September 2025 so I also have a 1095-B showing I had VA coverage for the months of Sept-Dec 2025. I recently realized that because I was enrolled in VA Healthcare that I should not have received any of the subsidies I received for last Sept-Dec for Obamacare on the 1095-A.  I know I need to pay them back, but cannot find where in Online Turbotax to tell the software I had other healthcare, so it gives me a figure for how much I owe.   I'm almost done with the return and may have seen this question about additional healthcare when I first started the return, but must have answered it incorrectly because I didn't realize at the time that my enrollment in VA Healthcare would affect my Obamacare subsidies.  Now I can't get back to it.  Do I go ahead and just file this return and also make an estimated tax payment direct to the IRS for the amount I know I owe to pay back the subsidies for Sept-Dec 2025? I've tried going into Deductions, Medical (I'm not itemizing), Marketplace 1095-A form and tried to find a "more" button, but there is none.

There is currently not a way in TurboTax to indicate that you were ineligible or had other insurance during the period of time that you were  also covered by the marketplace insurance. This is a situation that TurboTax does not support.

Since TurboTax is not currently able to handle this issue in the Do It Yourself software, you can either reach out to a Tax Professional for help with filing your return or you can print and mail the tax return along with a manually calculated form 8962. You can do the manual changes if you are using the desktop version of TurboTax by going to forms mode. In the online version, you cannot make changes to the forms directly.  In Column (e) Part II rows 1-12 you would need to enter $0 for the months you were not eligible for the Premium Tax Credit.   You can also do this adjustment in TurboTax Online by entering $0 in column B, which will have TurboTax determine that you were not eligible for those months.

By doing it the second way with entering $0 in column B for those months, you would be able to e-file, however, this will likely generate a mismatch letter sent to you from the IRS if you e-file.  They could automatically adjust your refund to include the amount the premium tax credit you are trying to not claim since they do not know why you are not claiming it.  To them it looks like an error.  To avoid the error it is best to print and mail your return and attach a statement explaining why you were not eligible for the PTC. The IRS would then know why you made the changes and not correct your refund amount.

Thanks, Vanessa for your detailed response.  I appreciate it.  (Turbotax wouldn't let me put in $0 in column B, so I left it blank and that seemed to work though it changed the amount owed by a lot more than what I believe I owe.)  I decided to file my return as is without trying to adjust the 8962 results.  I did a Direct Payment to the IRS for the extra amount I believe I owe for the "unearned subsidies" with the hopes that the IRS will eventually figure out that I should not have received them.  I'm hoping they won't see the mismatch and send me back the payment.  Hopefully, it will be a credit to my IRS account for 2025.  Its frustrating as there is no place to put a reason for a making a "balance due" payment when using IRS Direct Pay.  Thanks again for your help and expertise!
