2019 Missouri Qualified Health Insurance Premiums

Because of an error in a TurboTax calculation, you may have overstated your Missouri Qualified Health Insurance Premiums deduction, leading to a possible underpayment of Missouri income tax.

We fixed the issue in TurboTax and we want to make sure your Missouri tax return is complete and accurate. We recommend that you amend your Missouri tax return to determine whether any additional tax is due. There are no additional fees for checking your TurboTax return or for preparing an amendment.

We continuously strive to provide correct and accurate calculations in our TurboTax products. Sometimes that effort results in our finding errors after returns have been filed. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. If you need our help, we’ve provided contact info below.

To amend your return in TurboTax, follow these step-by-step instructions:

  1. Write down the original refund or balance due amount for your Missouri income taxes. Verify the amount by checking the paper/PDF copy of your return or your banking records.
  2. Sign in to the TurboTax account where you prepared your 2019 return.
  3. In Tax Home, scroll down to Your tax returns & documents, and choose 2019. Select Amend (change) return and then select Amend Using TurboTax Online. Note: This is an auto fix. Once you update the program, the Missouri refund/balance due will reflect the corrected refund/balance due. If the corrected refund/balance due agrees with the amount you wrote down in Step 1, you don't need to amend your state tax return and you may stop here.
  4. On the OK, let’s get a kickstart on your 2019 amended return screen, choose TurboTax sent me an email, and then Continue.
  5. On the What did we contact you about? screen, choose Amending my return to fix info, and then Continue.
  6. On the Tell us which returns you want to amend screen, check the box for 2019 Missouri return. Your state refund/balance due tracker will usually reset to $0. This is normal. Select Continue
  7. On the Status of your state returns screen, select Amend to work on your Missouri state return. If you're amending multiple state returns, start with your Missouri return first. Note: If you were a Missouri part-year resident or nonresident and claimed a credit in your home state for Missouri income taxes paid, you may also need to amend your home state return. We’ll address amending your home state in Step 16.
  8. On the Your 2019 Missouri Return screen, select Continue. Then choose Yes, let’s amend and get it done, and then Continue.
  9. On the Change a Previously Filed Missouri Return screen, select Yes.
  10. On the Amount Paid or Refunded on Your Original Return screen, check the amounts listed, and make sure they match the figures you found in Step 1. Then Continue.
  11. On the Overpayment on Original Return screen, check the amounts listed, and make changes as needed. Select Continue.
  12. On the Reason for Amending Original Return screen, select Other Correction, and then Continue.
  13. On the Date or Year Information screen, leave the date field blank unless you're also preparing a Federal Amended Return, then Continue. Note: You may see an error message about this step during the review process. It'll be addressed in a later step.
  14. On the Let’s Make Sure You’re Ready to Review screen, select Yes, I’ve entered everything and let’s review, and then Continue.
  15. On the Ready to Review Your State Return screen, select Continue. You may see a Check This Entry screen asking you to enter a Date Fed Amend Rtn Filed. 1. For full-year Missouri residents, select Done With States, then Continue.
    2.
