Materials I purchased for work paid for

Say I'm paid 800 for a job I completed but 200 was for materials I bought in advance. Do I claim 800 and write off 200 or just claim 600

Yes, you would claim your gross receipts - in your example $800 and then report your expenses, which would include the $200.
