Will we receive a check in the mail later for the child tax credit?

We definitely qualify for the $2000 Child Tax Credit. We did owe federal taxes of about $1800. When we filed with Turbo Tax efile, our credit card was charged for the amount we owe the IRS. How do we receive the $2000 credit? Isn't it supposed to wipe out the amount we own the IRS? Will we receive a check in the mail for the Child Tax Credit?

No - The child tax credit is shown on your return as a subtraction from the taxes calculated.  It appears on line 12 of the 1040.

If you had a balance due of $1,800, that was after the child tax credit has been applied.
