Why is Turbo asking how much I contributed to an HSA for 2023 when this is for 2024 return?

Why is Turbo asking how much I contributed to an HSA for 2023 when this is for 2024 return?

When TurboTax asked you "What type of High Deductible Health Plan did [name] have on December 1, 2023?" it was checking to see if you used the last month rule in 2023 (long story). It asks you this because you did not indicate that you had any HDHP coverage in 2024 (which may have been correct).

If you had HDHP coverage in 2023 and none in 2024, then it would look like your coverage lapsed, and TurboTax would have to ask you some questions about 2023 in order to calculate the penalty for letting it lapse in 2024.

However, the odds are good that you mistakenly answered the question in the first paragraph above, because you did not realize that this question refers ONLY to taxpayers who have a particular kind of health insurance called "High Deductible". If you didn't have an HDHP policy in 2023, then you should answer "NONE" to this question in 2024.
