You may not have been able to itemize. If you're not able, it means the IRS gave you more for your filing status than your total deductions (like medical, home mortgage interest, and property taxes) than your standard deduction (see table below.).

I entered foreign taxes as a deduction. I now want to switch it to a credit, but I cannot remove it from the "Other Deductible Expenses" area
