Did you check 1040 line 28 for it?
Turbo Tax started out giving you the full amount as soon as you entered your children. So your refund was too high. Then later you enter what you already received so it subtracts out what you already got. Check 1040 lines 19 and 28 and schedule 8812.
Before filing, You can preview the 1040 or print the whole return
The Ctc is now fully refundable. All 4 of my children fall in the $3,000/per age range. I received $6,000 in “advance payments”. That leaves $6,000 in ctc owed (my total annual income falls below any reduction lines. FAR below). TurboTax is calculating my TOTAL return as $3,800. The “too high” thing doesn’t jive.
Did you look on line 28? Maybe you would have a tax due without it and the 6,000 credit is reducing it to a refund.
If I somehow owe money when I make the same amount as last year and the ctc was increased and made fully refundable? That means turbo tax is screwing something up somewhere. I have tried reviewing and can’t locate the problem.
Also, while I do appreciate your response, the only way for me to follow the steps of the link which you posted is to pay first. It kind of goes against principle to pay someone first who you feel like isn’t doing the job properly. For some reason, in the step by step portion, it congratulates me on being a parent and says I earned a tax credit, but the estimated return amount doesn’t change and nowhere does it say that I’m getting the full $12,000 credit (but that $6,000 has been advanced). It specifically says I’m getting $6,000, but it all shows as being “advanced”.
You can see the 1040 and line 28 without paying. If you have 6,000 there then you are getting it.
You do not have to pay to preview your Form 1040.
