Why is a Standard Deduction of $25,300 being used when our deductions/credits are $38,140?

You should compare the Standard Deduction to the Itemized Deduction on Schedule A, not total Deductions/ Credits.

Check Schedule A line 17.  On line 9 of Form 1040, the program chooses the greater between the two.

Why is a Standard Deduction of $25,300 being used when our deductions/credits are $38,140?

Not all deductions (such as Medical) count at 100%, and State/Local/Sales/Property taxes are capped at $10,000 total.
