Why did I not have to enter my mortgage interest from my 1098 form?

You might not have had to enter your mortgage interest from your 1098 form in TurboTax if you elected the standard deduction instead of itemizing deductions. To deduct mortgage interest, you need to itemize your deductions.

Additionally, TurboTax may automatically import your 1098 information if you used their import feature, which pulls data directly from your financial institutions.

To check and edit your Form 1098 entries in TurboTax, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to TurboTax: Open TurboTax and sign in to your account.
  2. Search for Form 1098: Use the search bar to type "1098" and select the "Jump to 1098" link.
  3. Edit Entries: Click on the pencil icon next to each 1098 entry to view and edit the detail
  4. Scroll to Box 1 of the 1098 - Mortgage interest.
