Where in Turbotax do I enter gambling losses? I'm itemizing deductions but when I add it as an Other Expense/deduction, it doesn't affect my total tax due.

You can only deduct gambling losses up to the amount of gambling winnings you report. These losses cannot be used to offset or lower your taxes on other types of income.

The total of all your itemized deductions on Schedule A must be greater than the standard deduction for your filing status to have any tax benefit.

Standard deductions for 2025

Single - $15.750 add $2,000 if age 65 or older
Married Filing Separately - $15,750 add $1,600 if age 65 or older
Married Filing Jointly - $31,500 add $1,600 for each spouse age 65 or older
Head of Household - $23,625 add $2,000 if age 65 or older

Thanks for your replies.  I think I should rephrase my question.

I'm aware of deduction amounts and have surpassed that amount.

My question is, where do I enter my gambling losses to offset my winnings.

My scenario is something like this:

Gambling winnings: $10,000

Tax on winnings: $3,500

Gambling losses: $12,000

However, when I enter $10,000 in losses in the Other Deduction Expenses section, it does not offset my tax in any way.  The additional $3,500 taxes owed from winnings is not subtracted from the Federal Due number in the upper left corner of the screen.  I would think that the offset would subtract the $3,500 amount from the Federal Due amount.

Am I entering my losses in the wrong area of Turbotax?

Gambling losses can only be deducted up to the amount of the gambling winnings.
Gambling winnings are reported on Form 1040 Schedule 1 on Line 8b. The amount from Part I of Schedule 1 Line 10 flows to Form 1040 Line 8.
Gambling Losses are reported on Form 1040 Schedule A as a Other Itemized Deductions. Gambling losses are not a one-for-one reduction in winnings. Your total itemized deductions reported on Form 1040 Schedule A must be greater than the standard deduction for your filing status to have any tax benefit.
