Where do you report legal fees

You don't.  Legal fees are not deductible

Where do you report legal fees

Unfortunately, generally you can no longer deduct legal fees unless you are self employed.

If your legal fees were to fight a job termination based on criminal charges, you can still deduct as an itemized deduction.

You can also deduct legal fees against an award as an expense.

Here are the instructions per my coworker Kitty:

To enter your qualifying legal fees,
  • In your open Federal return, choose the tab for Wages & Income
  • Scroll down to Less Common Income and Show more
  • Start/Revisit Miscellaneous Income and choose Other reportable income
  • Say Yes to continue to the screen "Other Taxable Income". Enter the description "Qualifying Legal Fees" and the amount as a negative number

A corresponding subtraction will be entered on Line 21 of your return.
