Where do I show a 2018 refund on 2017 city motor vehicle tax of $24.00 and no 1099-G?

If you used the city motor vehicle tax paid as a deduction on your 2017 return, report the refund as taxable.

That would have been reported on the 2017 Schedule A line 5c.

If you did not Itemize on the 2017 tax return, and took the standard deduction instead, you do not need to reort the refund.

TO REPORT:

Sign into your account, the return and click "Pick up where I left off"

Click Federal

Click Wages & Income

"I'll choose what I work on"

Scroll down to "1099-MISC and Other Common Income"

Click open "State and Local Tax Refunds on Form 1099-G"

"Did you get a refund?" Answer "Yes"

State or Locality drop down, choose the last option "More Than One/None"

Enter the refund amount

Enter the amount of taxes you claimed on the 2017 return (Schedule A line 7) and Continue

"Did any of these apply?" click "None of the above" and Continue

Click Done
