Where do i input my personal property tax? and auto loan payments?

Auto loan payments on a personal vehicle, not used in a business, are not deductible on a federal tax return.

To enter edit or delete Personal Property Taxes -

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home & Business)
Click on Deductions and Credits
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Scroll down to Cars and Other Things You Own
On Personal Property Taxes, click on the start or update button

If you qualify for the Vehicle Loan interest deduction, you can enter this information in the "Vehicle Loan Interest" section of the program.

To qualify for the car loan interest deduction, your vehicle must meet all of these requirements:

  • You purchased it in 2025.  It isn't leased.
  • It’s a brand new vehicle, not used.
  • Its final assembly was in the U.S. You are asked to check this requirement by entering your VIN and model year into the VIN decoder provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
  • It's a car, van, SUV, motorcycle, or pickup truck that weighs less than 14,000 pounds.
  • It was purchased for personal use.
  • The interest wasn't paid to a family member or a business you own.
  • Your loan must be secured by the vehicle.

If you meet these requirements, double-check that you have answered all the questions correctly in the appropriate section.

To enter the information for property taxes, go to the "Deductions and Credits" screen. Click Property Taxes. Enter to update the information.
