This was helpful in my case. I recently had to file a return for 2017 because my only income for that year was from a wrongful termination lawsuit but I thought it wasn't taxable income at that time so I didn't file (long story). I got a 1099MISC for the full amount of the settlement, but I only actually got less than half the amount because of legal fees. What forms do I need to file an amended return for 2017 that includes the deduction for my legal fees? Also, would I be able to deduct the legal fees on my state taxes for California? Thanks!
