Where do I enter self-funded FSA contributions?

After retiring at the end of September, I made my final three months of FSA contributions out of my personal (after-tax) funds, outside of the normal payroll process.  I need to know how and where to enter these FSA contributions on my tax return so that I get the full deduction that I am due.

It would seem the employer would have adjusted your W2 wages accordingly, even if you paid them after retirement. If you are sure the employer did not make the necessary adjustments on your W2, you can use the following instruction to reduce your earnings.

While you are signed into your TurboTax account:

  1. Select Federal in the black navigation panel on left
  2. Select Wages & Income at the top
  3. Scroll to Less Common Income
  4. Scroll to Miscellaneous Income
  5. Select Other income not already reported on a Form W-2 or Form 1099
  6. Continue to Other earned income then enter the description with a negative amount for your FSA payments
  • Example:  -250
  • Click the image attached to enlarge and view for assistance.

This should reduce your taxable wages by the amount of your contribution.
