When I completed my taxes yesterday I was asked for my wife's and my Indiana Drivers license numbers, etc. Is this standard procedure? What was the purpose?

Yes, it is now standard procedure for e-filing. Many states and even the IRS are using this information to help reduce tax fraud. Not all states require that you input your driver's license, but it is highly recommended.

If you are having your TurboTax fees deducted from your refund, however, this uses a bank product that does require the driver's license information to be uploaded.
