When entering community property adjustment tax withholding the system adds instead of subtracts. Added subtraction sign correctly. Is this a bug issue?

The system seems to be adding instead of subtracting despite having a minus sign in front of the number. This leads to the system adding more tax withholdings then is correct.

Please enter subtractions as a whole number (positive).

Do not enter a subtraction as a negative number.

Thank you.

I have tried removing the subtraction sign but the system won't allow it as the value must be below 0.

There have been a bunch of questions about this bug over the last couple days. I'm having the same issue for allocating federal withholdings (not state). It's really annoying. Hope they fix it soon. Otherwise, some people are going to trust TT's buggy community income withholding adjustment calculations and claim giant refunds erroneously, causing a huge headache.

To clarify, are you using the TurboTax APP?

I have no issues when using TurboTax Online or TurboTax Desktop.

KrisD15 Hmm, I am using desktop. Here are a couple other recent posts about the issue.

This is happening after it asks me to adjust income to take into account community income, which works fine. The next step is to adjust federal state and local withholdings. I can only enter a negative number in the "subtraction" field--but then on the federal side that number gets added, not subtracted, adjusting the amount withheld up just like if you had entered it in the "additions" field. I can even see the error in line 25 when I pull up the 1040 form that TT is filling out in the background as I walk through EasyStep. Line 25a shows my W2 withholdings, a positive number. Line 25c (other forms) is where TT does the community property adjustment, and it shows the adjustment, a negative number.  But then Line 25d adds them together to get a bigger number, totally ignoring the minus sign.

I have attempted online and on the app and both result in the same error.

I also contacted Someone at TurboTax who was unable to resolve the problem and concluded it was likely a bug or software issue.
