What is the maximum contribution to a HSA if the husband is 65 already and on Medicare and the wife is 64 and of course is not? She is on a qualifying plan.

She is 64 and on a qualifying Hi Deductible plan and will turn 65 in June this year. I am not sure of the maximum contribution to the HSA in this situation.

The 2018 annual contribution limit that individuals with single medical coverage can contribute to a health saving account is $3,450, and an additional $1,000 if you are 55 or older.  The limit increased to $3,500 for 2019.

Is your wife's HDHP plan presently a self-only plan or a family plan?
If it's a family plan, will she be switching that to a self-only plan beginning in June, the first month you are covered by Medicare (assuming your birthday is not June 1, otherwise May is the first month of your Medicare coverage)?

The plan is now a self-only plan,  with a birthday in mid June so yes May will be the 1st month of coverage for Medicare.

Although not relevant to the question that you asked, with your birthday being in mid June your Medicare coverage starts on June 1 as long as you sign up within the Initial Enrollment Period.

If your wife is the only one covered by the HDHP plan in all of 2019, contributions can only be made *her* HSA and the self-only limit plus catch-up applies as described in the answer above.
