What is the maximum amount that a relative can gift you in a fiscal year without it being taxed?

$14,000 is the gift tax exclusion amount for 2016 and 2017. 

In other words, a taxpayer may give $14,000 to as many people as he/she wishes without impacting his/her lifetime gift tax exclusion or paying gift taxes.
