What # do I enter in the business section for "excess real estate taxes" for home office; taking the standard deduction, have over $10000 real estate tax on our home?

If you are not itemizing deductions, do not put any numbers on lines 10, 11 and 12 of Form 8829.  Instead, enter your entire amount of interest, property taxes and homeowner's insurance on lines 16, 17 & 18.  You can also get the answers at the IRS website, search for "Form 8829 instructions".

TurboTax still places the amounts on lines 10, 11 and 12 if the standard deduction is chosen by TurboTax as the best option. Lines 16, 17 and 18 remain empty.
