What amount do I put in for outstanding mortgage principal as of 1/1//2018 on firm 1098 if I did not have the mortgage until August of 2018 when I purchased the home?

My 1098 shows $0 in box 2 for outstanding principal as of 1/1/2018. But Turbo Tax wants a non-zero entry.

I would go ahead and enter $1 as an amount. It will have zero effect on your taxes.

I was thinking it would be the beginning amount of the loan that I took out in August. Going forward, it would be the beginning of each year. Why is that not correct?
