We started a renovation in 2018, paid for a portion of it but it completed in 2019. We claim a part of it as a home office. Can we claim the part we paid for in 2018?

We started the renovation in 2018 and paid for a portion. It didn't complete until 2019. We do claim a part of the home as a home office. Can we claim anything for the business on the part we paid for in 2018? Nothing was finished in 2018. I do realize we would have to do is an asset / depreciation but I don't know if we can claim anything since nothing was finished. Thank you.

No, you would wait until the asset (the renovation) was placed in service before beginning the depreciation of it that is associated with the home office.
