The second or vacation home is sold as an investment property.

The second home sale can be entered into TurboTax CD or Desktop version by following the steps below.

  1. Open your TurboTax account > Wages & Income
  2. Scroll to Investment Income > Select Stocks, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other > Start or Update
  3. Select Enter a different way > Select the type of sale - Other
  4. Enter the details of the property sold - Select Second Home from the dropdown continue to enter your information
  5. Continue to finish your sale.
  6. See the image below.

The gain from the sale will be fully taxable because a second home is not eligible for the home sale exclusion. See the image below for assistance. Whether you specifically select Second Home is not relevant for the tax return itself.

I followed the steps to enter the information on the sale of our second home that was for personal use.  Unfortunately the screen does not appear to show up in full  when I try to edit the information. I'm including a screen shot of the page and as you can see the right hand side is incomplete.  What do I need to do to fix it?

Screenshot didn't work.  But the problem remains.

Try clearing your cache and cookies in your browser.

Your browser stores recently visited webpages as temporary files in a cache, which enables the pages to load more quickly when revisited.

However, a full or corrupted cache can cause problems in TurboTax, so sometimes you need to clear your cache (that is, remove these temporary files).

Here are the official instructions for the most popular browsers:

Apple's official support site doesn't appear to contain instructions for clearing the cache in Safari. Your best bet is to search the Internet for clear Safari cache or similar search terms.

Cookies are small files that temporarily store data on your computer. We use them to personalize your experience so you see information you already entered and not items that are irrelevant or repetitive.

On rare occasions, they may make your browser think you already did something that you still need to do. To fix that, you'll need to delete (clear) the cookies from your browser.

Each browser has a slightly different method for deleting cookies. Choose the browser you're using:
