Yesterday my husband and I received $4,200 for the 3rd stimulus. Our daughter who graduated from college in 2020 was our dependent up through 2019, but in 2020 she provided more than 50% of her own support. So we believe that we should have only gotten the $2,800 for the two of us.
We have not completed our 2020 taxes and she hasn't either.
Since she was a dependent up through 2019 she did not receive the first or second stimulus and she has put those on her 2020 return to file for those payments.
But we can't find anything in TurboTax to give back the $1,400 we shouldn't have gotten, and she can't find anything to get the payment.
Is this something that will come around when we file 2021 taxes next year? Or is this some forms that need to be added to TurboTax and you guys are working on it and we need to be patient?

The IRS has done it correctly, since 2019 was the last returns on file for both of you. Just give you daughter the $1400 you received for her.
There is no way to pay it back or for her to get a separate payment this year.
We don't know yet how this will be handled when the 2021 returns are filed

the 1,400 payment goes to you for older dependents unlike EIP1 and EIP2, so it belongs to you not your daughter.
your daughter will also get 1,800 + 1,400 when she files that no one can claim her.
If you wish to pay back EIP,
write a check payable to US Treasury,
put your name, SSN and phone number
and write "Return EIP to Treasury" on the check.
Mail to your IRS location.
Your format indicates you copied that from an IRS web page. Can you reference a source?
I don't know if a taxpayer wants to be sending the money back, without knowing if and when the daughter will get her payment. Based on the 2019/2020 payments, it probably won't be until she files her 2021 return in early 2022.
"A bird in hand......"

I wasn't suggesting it should be sent back.
I don't know anyone who would do that.
Just, that it can be done.
daughter should receive EIP3 shortly after her 2020 tax return is processed.
