We moved to a new primary residence in 2017 but were not able to sell our other home until 1/2/2018. Does this home sale need to be reported on 2017 taxes or 2018 taxes?

If you have to report it at all, it would be in 2018. If you don't receive a 1099-S for the sale, and you qualify to exclude all of the gain on the sale, you wouldn't have to report the sale.
