We lost our home in a fire in December. How will this effect our taxes

So sorry----was this in a an area that has been declared a federal disaster area? Or just a very unfortunate event for you? If it was the latter, so sorry---but casualty losses are not deductible on a federal return unless they happened in a federal disaster area.
