W2 State Income not Matching Itemized Breakdown

Hello, I input my W2 which had state income box 17 of about $9500. I went through to the itemized vs standard deduction page and there it lists "State and Local Income/Sales Taxes" as about $800 HIGHER than what I put in from my W2. The other boxes of Property Taxes and Real Estate Taxes are correctly displayed. Should the "State and Local Income/Sales Taxes" match my w2 if that is the only place taxes have been withheld?

Thank you!

W2 State Income not Matching Itemized Breakdown

Four other items can add into that State number (at least those I can think of)

1)  If you owed some more $$ to the state when you filed your 2024 state taxes (in 2025)....those state balance due $$ will add into that total.

2)  If you paid some 2024 State Q4 Estimated tax payments in January of 2025, then those $$ add in.

3)  If you filed a state extension for 2024 taxes, and paid some $$ to the state at that time..those $$ add in too.

More rarely:

4) some people have to pay "Local" income taxes in their city or county, those add in too if paid/withheld  during 2025.

OH MAN! Thank you!

You hit the nail on the head with #1... the extra taxes I owed on last year's return were automatically added to what I paid in 2025.

Thank you so much for the quick help with this!
