For what purpose? Is this a rental property?
This is to report home sales, not the rental property. I am eligible for step up home sales price, I am trying to find out , in Turbotax, where I should enter to let IRS know that the purchase price I am entering is the step-up home price. I would appreciate your guidance in this matter.
Just enter the stepped up value. Why do you need to tell the IRS it’s stepped up? If they have a question they will mail you a letter. The IRS doesn’t know what you originally paid.
You don't enter it anywhere. You just enter your basis. On your tax return you do not explain how you calculated the basis. If the IRS wants to know how you calculated it, they will send you a letter asking for more information. Save all your records for at least 3 years in case they ask.
When you enter the sale of the home, there should be a question asking how you acquired the home, one answer choice should be that you inherited the home.
