Turbo tax is telling me, my standard deduction is 6k and change. Isn't it supposed to be 12k this year?

No. The increased standard deduction amounts will be in effect next year when you file your 2018 tax return in 2019.
2017 Standard Deductions
Single $6350 (65 or older + $1550)
Married Filing Separately $6350 (65 or older + $1250)
Married Filing Jointly $12,700 (65 or older + $1250@)
Head of Household $9350 (65 or older + $1550)
