Using desktop version, done today. I spent $7400 on a biomass stove and TT is giving me a credit of $2600 but the cap is $2000. I deleted all the info from that section and entered it again, it's still giving me the $2600 credit. Ideas?

If you switch to Forms Mode in TurboTax Desktop by clicking on Forms in the top right of your TurboTax screen and then scroll down to Form 5695, you may be able to tell where the additional credit came from.
For example if you had a home energy audit, that is in addition to the credit. Also, if you had any enabling property costs that you entered in TurboTax for example subpanel boards or branch circuits, that will also increase the amount of your credit as well as any carryforward energy credits from 2024.
Also, make sure your program is up to date. You can manually check for updates for your TurboTax Desktop program by clicking on "Online" in the black bar near the top of your screen and selecting "Check for Updates."

Thanks for the response. I accidentally said I'm using desktop but I'm actually using the online version, which, to my knowledge, does not let you access forms. Is there any way to correct this error using the online TT?
I would like to take a deeper look at this. However, I need a diagnostic file, which is a copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed. You can send one to us by following the directions below:
