The system is saying I do not qualify for dependent care expenses because I do not have earned income. Both my husband and I have W2s. What is going on here?

Did you enter both of the W-2's in TurboTax?  Did you make sure that each W-2 was specifically assigned to the correct person?

Or did you enter both W-2's under one person's name?  If so, this would have prevented you from receiving the child and dependent care credit.

Go back and check your W-2 entries.

Click on Federal>Wages & Income>Wages & Salaries (W-2)

Double check your W2 entries. It sounds like you selected the same person for both W2's.

To review or edit your W-2 entries in TurboTax Online:

  1. Select Federal from the left navigation menu.
  2. Click on Wages & Income.
  3. Locate the Wages and Salaries section (it is often the first item listed).
  4. Click Edit/Add or Revisit next to Wages and Salaries (Form W-2).
  5. You will land on the Your W-2 summary screen, which lists all W-2s currently entered.
  6. Select Edit next to the specific W-2 you wish to review, or select Add another W-2 if needed.
