That Tax Summary tool is showing that I have already made tax payments, when I have not. Where is this number coming from?

Currently TurboTax is showing I am owed a large refund (which I know I am not), I know I owe taxes because I am self-employed and did not send estimated tax payments, and this number changed all of the sudden. I went through the annualized income tool to try to reduce the tax penalty for not paying quarterly taxes, and it seems like this error happened afterwards. I have since deleted 2210 forms, and confirmed the quarterly estimated taxes paid in the deductions section is 0.

I cannot figure out where this number is entered and why it is calculating that I've already paid a large tax amount. Any suggestions?

Total payments and refundable credits would include children and rebate recovery credits. See How do I preview my TurboTax Online return before filing?

I found where it's coming from. I see it on form 1040, on line 25b(Federal income tax withheld (Form1099)). It's the exact amount of one of my 1099's. I must have accidentally entered the non-employee compensation in the federal tax withheld box. However, when I went to that 1099, I did not see it in the box, and even deleted and re-added it, and put 0 in it. For some reason, line 25b on 1040 is where the amount is listed, and I need to manually remove that number.

Can I remove this number from the form, or I do I need to delete the form? And will Turbotax automatically regenerate it?

You cannot manually remove a number with TurboTax Online.  You need delete in the section where you entered the 1099.  Since you deleted and reentered it and it still appears in Line 25b, you can try this:

  • Use the Chrome browser and clear browsing data for all time
  • Sign into TurboTax on the Chrome browser
  • Go to Tax Tools, Tools, Delete a Form
  • Delete the 1099 and confirm deletion
  • Check you 1040 form to see if it is corrected
  • Check if the 1099 needs to be reentered

If you are still having this issue, then send a diagnostic copy and we will investigate the error.
