Tax credit

Paid 2022 taxes under 2023 last year by mistake. 2022 had to be paid again after receiving IRS notice. Now when I check IRS site they mention the payment made for 2023 need to be claimed as credit. How TurboTax can help me? Do I need to file a separate form?

No, you don't need to file a separate form.   Enter the amount paid as an estimated tax payment in TurboTax when you are preparing your 2023 return (the one you are filing now).    Since you made a tax payment in 2023 toward your federal taxes, enter the payment in the Estimates and Other Income Taxes Paid section.   The amount will be credited to your 2023 tax bill.

  1. Open or continue your return.
  2. Go to the Federal section, then Deductions & Credits.   You can also search for estimated tax payments and select the Jump to link in the search results.
  3. Select Estimates and Other Taxes Paid.
  4. Select Start or Revisit next to Estimated Tax Payments.
  5. Select Start or Revisit next to Federal estimated taxes 2023 (1040-ES).
  6. Enter the amount of the payment and the date you made it.
